Breast Self-Exam
Another important thing that women need to learn about during their puberty years is what's called a breast self-exam. Once the breasts start to develop, its important for adolescents to practice what's called a breast self-examination. This is to look for what's called breast cancer. Now, breast cancer usually happens later in life, but during teen years its good to learn and practice so that we're ready when we reach adulthood. The way that works is that a woman would feel their own breasts, probably in an organized way. So, they might feel across the breast or go around in a spiral. Its also important that they check underneath the armpit because there are some lymph nodes there also that can get breast cancer. What they're looking for is a lump or a bump or a change that happens. And if they notice a change, go to the doctor. Most of the time it's nothing to worry about, but if a person finds breast cancer, its important to get treatment early and doctors can help you with the proper medicine to take care of yourself. So, breast self-exams is something important we do to take care of your own bodies and an important thing to learn during puberty.
