Privacy, Maturity, and Decision Making
Another change that happens during puberty is that people start to notice that they need a little more privacy. As people's bodies change, sometimes they need time to themselves or to be alone. When people are children, parents and guardians spend a lot of time with you. As we get older, we learn how to set boundaries and say "Yea, I'd like to hang out right now." Or "No, actually I really need some private time right now." It's okay if you need time for yourself. It's a normal thing during puberty. Puberty doesn't just mean emotional changes and physical changes, but also big changes in how mature people feel. One of the things people often say is puberty is a time when people start to mature. And maturity means making good decisions. Our brains actually develop during puberty and we're able to handle more complex information. So, we can make more complex decisions. That's a part of maturity.
